WHAT I OFFER

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

Looking for relief from anxiety or depression? Struggling with self-limiting beliefs or preparing for a major life transition? Want to expand your self-identity or get more from your interpersonal relationships?  The encouragement and feedback you receive from good old-fashioned talk therapy allows a connection when you want to be heard or need to be seen, understood, and supported. Few things in life provide the healing power of a trusting, intimate relationship with another human being, and being able to develop that with a professional counselor is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

COUPLES COUNSELING

Whether you and your partner are struggling in your current relationship or you just want to build upon the healthy foundation you've already cultivated together, couples counseling can give you the tools and insight you need to be better - together. Catering to both heterosexual and LGBTQ couples, I provide a supportive space where partners can explore communication dynamics and sex positivity. Also, as a Prepare/Enrich certified facilitator I'm able to give couples visual assessments to help create awareness of strengths and challenges to fortify their pre-marital, marital, or family relationships.

SCHEMA THERAPY

It may be difficult to recognize, but the relationship patterns developed with your primary caregiver in childhood can be perpetuated in all interpersonal relationships throughout the rest of your life. Schema therapy uses an evidence-based approach that helps you identify these patterns, empowering you to realign yourself and enrich your relationships.

EATING DISORDERS & BODY IMAGE

Most individuals that struggle with disordered eating face ambivalence in therapy, like gaining weight, eating "normal" food, and purging. As a result, engaging clients to make a change is a big part of treatment. Managing anxiety is another one. For many, life has often revolved around managing their eating disorder, often creating an imbalance in other areas of life. In addition to counseling, working with a licensed dietitian is also crucial for recovery and I can recommend several in the area that can provide assistance and nutritional support. Please note: I use the NEDA Guidelines for levels of care and only offer Level One, Outpatient services which is the Action and Maintenance phases. https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/toolkit/parent-toolkit/level-care-guidelines-patients

ADDICTION & CODEPENDENCY

Acknowledging that you need help is never easy, but it’s one of the best things you can do for yourself. Whether you’ve decided to get help to control or moderate your alcohol or drug use, or just want to explore the role that addiction might play in your life, you are being proactive in getting help. Addiction is a family illness that inevitably alters the lives of everyone. I can help those suffering from their loved ones' addiction as we navigate a new course with healthy limits and redraw our boundaries to include what is, and isn't, within our control.

I practice from an attachment perspective which focuses on important relationships in our lives and the innate human need to feel connected, loved & supported.

about me

I took the scenic route to become a clinician after spending many years as a graphic designer. At 45, I decided to recreate myself and move toward a career path I'm passionate about.

Like you, I have encountered a fair amount of life struggles of my own, and I disclose that in the therapeutic relationship where it benefits my clients. I'm a parent of 3, and have navigated my share of shifting family dynamics as well as exploring the early stages of my own journey into middle age.

These experiences, combined with my education and training, allow me to not only understand the needs of my clients but to provide genuine empathy without a stitch of judgment.

I know what it feels like to be a client, as I have been in counseling at various times throughout my life, and continue to integrate this as a regular discipline of self-care.

With Kindness,

EDUCATION & PHILOSOPHY

  • Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, University of WI, Whitewater

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
    State of Wisconsin License #7468-125

  • Substance Abuse Counselor

  • Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC)

  • American Counseling Association (ACA) member

While I have training as a generalist, I have advanced skills and training in eating disorders, marriage and family, and Substance Abuse, where I completed my addiction studies abroad in Scotland.

I am skilled at using a wide variety of therapeutic approaches, including attachment theory work, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, schema, and insight-based therapies.

I tailor my approach based on the specific goals and strengths of each client so that each person experiences therapy that is a good fit for them. All therapy I do is evidence-based and is designed to be empowering, with a focus on depathologizing the person.

My passion in counseling is creating a relationship built on safety, where people feel accepted and challenged to grow in new and meaningful ways.

I see counseling as an opportunity to help people diminish pain and suffering, cope with the challenges of life (both normal and extraordinary), and experience increased joy, purpose, and self-acceptance.

About Me

Good Faith Estimate

Notice to clients and prospective clients: Under the law, health care providers need to give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, or how to dispute a bill, see your Estimate, or visit https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
